Hybrid Mode

Hedging bots and options. Same account. Different jobs.

Hybrid Mode runs the Derivatives API hedging bots and Margin Syndicate Options together on a single OKX Portfolio Margin account. The hedging bots carry directional exposure on perpetuals. Margin Syndicate Options sells premium on BTC and ETH options. Same margin pool, different jobs.

How Hybrid Mode works

The two systems share collateral on an OKX Portfolio Margin (PM4) account but operate as independent engines. The hedging bots run range-managed exposure on perpetuals with their own hedge overlays. Options sells defined-risk premium structures on BTC and ETH options. Cross-margin efficiency lets the same equity service both books without double-funding.

The two systems are deliberately decoupled. The options strategy selector is isolated from hedging-bot deltas. It sells premium based on options exposure alone, so the two engines never fight each other for directional posture.

Architectural guarantees

Decoupled selectors

The options engine never reads hedging-bot deltas. It picks structures off its own exposure book. The hedging bots never read options Greeks. Each engine sees only its own state.

Hard-capped options margin

Options margin usage is hard-capped at a configurable share of total account equity. The hedging bots always have runway. The cap is enforced at order submission, not after the fact.

Defined-risk only

Hybrid Mode inherits the standard Margin Syndicate Options mandate. Defined-risk structures only. No naked shorts, no undefined wings.

Single venue, single equity

One OKX PM4 account. One equity number. One margin pool. No internal transfers, no rebalancing between sub-accounts.

Operational modes

One configuration switch toggles between three modes:

Coexistence

Hedging bots and options run side by side. No auto-hedging between the two. Each engine manages its own book. This is the default Hybrid configuration.

Flatten

An operator requests account-wide risk reduction. Closing or hedging orders need fills and reconciliation before the resulting exposure can be confirmed. Completion is not instantaneous or guaranteed.

Solo

Either system runs standalone. Hedging bots only, or options only. Allows clients to step into Hybrid incrementally, or step back out without migrating accounts.

Why run them together

Hedging bots generate return from realised volatility and range-managed exposure. Options structures can carry long or short volatility. Correlation and joint drawdown need measurement for the actual combination. Sharing margin may improve capital efficiency, but also couples the books through collateral and liquidation risk.

The decoupled design is deliberate. Auto-hedging between the hedging bots and options sounds clever on paper but creates feedback loops in fast markets. Hybrid Mode keeps the engines independent and gives the operator a single flatten switch instead.

Availability and qualification

OKX-only. Limited availability.

This page describes the OKX shared-margin configuration. Confirm the current account-specific approval and monitoring arrangements with operations; the expanded Options profile on Deribit does not qualify this setup.

Existing DirectAPI clients can request an account review. Both books, shared collateral and recovery behaviour need qualification before they run together; individual-engine availability is insufficient.

FAQ

Hybrid Mode FAQ

Mode changes, shared-margin risk and account qualification.

How do Coexistence, Flatten and Solo differ?

Coexistence keeps the hedging and options books separate in their decisions. Solo runs one strategy. Flatten is an operator-directed risk-reduction process: closing or hedging orders still need fills and reconciliation, so requesting it does not prove that an account is flat. Agree any mode change with operations first.

Does separating the engines eliminate shared risk?

No. Independent strategy decisions can still compete for the same collateral and produce combined exposure. Shared-margin operation needs account-level exposure, margin and recovery checks; it cannot be inferred from either engine working alone.

What happens when one strategy loses money?

In a shared-margin account, losses can reduce the collateral available to both strategies. The agreed profile must specify admission limits, pauses and recovery actions. No margin cap or drawdown trigger guarantees that the other strategy remains unaffected.

Does the 26-template Options catalogue qualify for Hybrid Mode?

Not automatically. As reported on 3 October 2026, the expanded profile is installed on Deribit, while Coincall remains on its four-family build. Neither establishes approval for the same portfolio on an OKX shared-margin account. Each combination requires its own margin, liquidity and lifecycle qualification.

Which account setup does this page describe?

The Hybrid design described here uses an OKX Portfolio Margin account. Eligibility, permissions and collateral treatment must be checked for the actual account. Deribit's unified-account evidence and Coincall's separate options and hedge accounts are different configurations.

How do I request Hybrid Mode?

Contact the operations team to review your existing strategy, account configuration and approved profile. The Options progress update is not confirmation that an expanded Hybrid portfolio is available or operating autonomously. Obtain account-specific confirmation before allocating.

What is the minimum allocation?

The published DirectAPI entry minimum is $50,000. Meeting it does not qualify an account for Hybrid Mode: the proposed books still need sufficient margin, liquidity and operational capacity.

Can I return to one strategy?

Request a transition to Solo with operations. Existing positions and orders must be reconciled and, where needed, closed or reassigned before the change is complete. Do not disable an engine or move collateral while it still owns open exposure.
